Catastrophic Engine Failure at 72,000 miles

We had interstates shut down in various places do to standing water and multiple instances of incredible rain fall - once as much as 3" in an hour just north of my location.
For national security reasons, your state should collect and ship the water to California!

This thread is interesting to me as I have had two MCS's in our family blow engines with less that 80K ea. The first was my son's '03 MCS that all of a sudden threw a rod bearing without warning. Dealer had just done service a few weeks prior and all was well. The second one happened to my wifes '05 MCS at approx 75K, rod thru the block. Both car have been well maintained and all the years I have owned and maintained cars I have never experienced a situation such as this. I have BMW's with 200K and they still run strong.
I doubt I would ever even think of buying another again after these two fiascos.

Hope all you guys have better luck than me.

The only problem I have seen related to broken rods going through the block (or pistons for that matter) is from hydrolock. Hitting a big puddle and pulling water into the engine. Trying to do a carbon cleaning and pulling too much fuel and cleaner liquid into the engine. The engines are strong but once the rod bents and breaks it goes right through the block with the engine running

I have also seen the rod bearings fail but thats because the oil level is always at least 2 litres under Minimum. A leaking Oil filter housing, pan gasket, timing cover or combination can cause a low oil quickly when driving at speed on the highway.

The '03 MCS that threw the bearing was just serviced and the oil level was right on the money at the time of failure. Car has had oil checked every week since new and never a leak anywhere.
As for the '05 MCS, with the rod thru the block, it had the same type of service as the '03. Being the gearheads that we are with 5 BMW's and 2 Mini's the cars are not lacking from neglect at all.
The dealer could not give me any explaination as to the cause of the failure and from what I am reading on the forums, I am not the only one this has happened to.
We have raced 6 cyl. BMW's for years and we have never experienced a lower end issue such as this in all our years of racing and running hard. It appears that these little engines are just not up to it.
