clutch master & slave cylinder replaced, now....

...the clutch is really spongy and even though the pedal starts of in the correct position, when you depress it's alot softer than it was before and engages really quickly. it's also shifting harder (which I presume is because the clutch travel is different now).

so question is: will this resolve and the clutch return to normal pre-cylinder replacement or was the job potentially not done correctly?

original clutch - 33k miles on the car. thanks

I'm guessing it's a bleeding issue...

Ryan (Ryephile) has posted a bunch of info on bleeding the clutch system.

The slave is a notious pain to bleed.

the system was bled - are you suggesting that it might need to be redone?

Make sure it was bled using the MINI special tool, without it you'll never get the pedal to feel right.

is this a "bs" moment or is this for real? the mini special tool??????

seriously speaking, before (as i would imagine all r53s oem clutches feel) the pedal was a bit stiff and had a decent feel and amount of travel. right now, it's both spongy by then also goes to the floor really easy, returns to the appropriate start position, but engages really quickly and shifts between 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd are really hard. it's what i would describe as the feel of a clutch that is actually nearly burnt out. i pumped the pedal a bunch at each light in neutral just to see if that would repressurize the system, but no change.

appreciate the continued input and suggestions.
