Hi!

I have this code, and I researched it on here. Basically I already replaced the plugs and rear o2 sensor trying to make the car run better, but I can't seem to get rid of this code. While searching I noticed people saying the adaptive something needs to be reset in the ECU, and nothing else will fix this. Is this something commonly done by the dealerships or small repair shops? Does anyone in Fort Worth or Dallas do this, so I don't go through the hassle of going to a dealer that isn't aware of the specific issue?

Yes, the adaptives on BMW ECU's can only be cleared by a handful of machines. Your garden variety code readers will not clear the code, even if you have fixed the problem. A dealer or independent shop that deals with BMW will have the right equipment.

 

Can't help you on the reset procedure but the code simply tells you that the rear Oxygen Sensor is reading a rich fuel trim. You didn't need to replace the rear Oxygen Sensor. There are many reasons why it's running rich... faulty injectors, leaky exhaust, faulty front (pre-cat) oxygen sensor, mods.

 

Depending on age and mileage on your MINI, it can be an indicator your catalytic converter is going bad. If the code returns after you clear it, that is mostly likely the problem.
