Oil change problem.

I changed the oil in my week old 2003 Cooper S
I noticed that the threads on the oil canister thingi are messed up at the last of the thread, I called the prior owner and he confirmed the problem I am having, that it leaks around the filter, My guess is that because the thread is mangled at the end, it causes the canister to tighten too much and compress the seal too much.

so, I would like to order a new one, but my google luck did not turn up anything typing "mini oil canister"

Does anyone have a part number of a proper name for it so I can google, and replace it?

ps. I just got back from a 15 hour road trip from Oklahoma to Wisconsin and back again. (in three days) to bad it was because a death in the family, at least the drive was awsome.

Oil Filter Cover
PN 11427563763

Careful that it's just the cover, and not the base as well.
FWIW, I've got an extra one PM me if interested.

The tightness of the canister has nothing to do with the seal. The O ring itself does the sealing, nothing else.

Sounds to me like a damaged or wrong size o ring, or another problem all together.

Would depend. If the threads are skewed in that location, the pressure against the O ring may not be even all the way around, thus minor seapage could occur.

And just a canister may not be enough....

For the record Artoo (2003 MCS) has had the oil changed every 5000 miles. He now has over 100,000 and the canister has always, ALWAYS been hard for me to replace. I eventually get it but it simply is not easy even after 20 times or so. It seems alway to want to cross thread. I too got a new canister at one point but it made no difference. For the record I only use Mini OEM Filters.

Good luck to you but you may find that the new canister makes no difference either.

We can sell you a brand new one, or I think I have a good used one I could sell you. I don't have them on the site, but we do carry them.
