'06 Airbag Light reset

I had my seats out this week to run some wires for the stereo and while they were out I turned the ignition on. The airbag light came on as expected because the seats were unplugged. Now it is back together and things are plugged in and the light stayed on.

I called the nearest BMW dealer about resetting it and they said that they can't do it. Found a mini dealer 2.5hours away that can reset it for $100

Does anyone out there know how to reset this?

I've got a elmscan but it won't see the SRS.

Update:

I can not find a tool to reset it. The tools that I looked at would only do up to 2003, and mine is a 2006.

Is there anyone in southern KS or northern OK that wants to make a deal to reset my light?

They probably can (same tool will work on both) but as a dealer they may have a policy about working only on BMW cars. Ask around at independent shops that work on BMW or MINI. Some body repair shops must surely have a tool (reset airbag deployments).

Great idea about the body shops. I know a couple of those guys that I can stop by and see after work today.

I talked with a local shop that does BMW and MINI and they did it for free. It took less than 5 minutes to complete the reset.

Good luck,
Mike

Any competent repair shop that works on European cars will and an AB reset tool for your MINI, just tell them your story and just pay them for a full scan print out (nice to have a baseline) and an AB reset, should be about $50. I purchased a reset tool off ebay that works great for when I'm working on my MINI and turn on the ignition with the seats out, etc. But I have had three of the passenger seat occupancy switches go out, so the reset tool won't reset it then until you replace the seat switch.

Which reset tool did you purchase? I may go that route if I can find one that works. The ones I've seen for sale won't work with my 2006.

Which Peake do you have and have you tried it on a mini between 2004 and 2006?

I found Peake R5/EMX that is for a Mini but it doesn't say that it will do SRS

The R5/SRS is the only one that says that it will reset the airbag light but it says that it will only do up to 2002.

I wish I had better news for you, but it's still a choice of getting used to the light or lightening your pocketbook.

I've stopped by two dealerships and both want around $90 to reset the light. So I'm still sporting the nice red light on my speedo.

You might try disconnecting the battery for about 30 mins.
When you hook it back up sometimes it will clear the codes.
Worked for me.

Usually if the problem is gone the car will clear the SRS light after xxx number of good self-check's it does every time you start the car.

I had no SRS light until I removed the passenger seat and re-installed it.
My problem is the seat occupancy sensor decided to fail when I had R&R'd the seat. It's all plugged in but DIS says the occupancy sensor is failed. :(
