2009 Cooper S spontaneous fire
**HUGS**
This was so sad...I actually teared up a little reading your post.
I'm fairly new to the MINI world, having bought my first MINI in December...but I can't imaging NOT driving a MINI now. I absolutely love it and would be sad driving anything else.
Hang in there

Fact is though, there is a cohesive thread in that 1st Gen thread with sticky status and over 450 posts that allows folks to research the clear similarities in the 45+ (yes, that many!) reported cases across all of those pages and apply the observations to their own circumstances. The pictures of suspect parts and the links to other sites and the NHTSB report all have relevance to 1st Gen only.
Since the design of the suspect components in the 1st Gen MINI are so completely different than those in the 2nd Gen MINI, the reporting of these rare (so far, thank goodness) instances of 2nd Gen fires dilutes the value of that thread and makes it harder to apply the observations therein to the failure "fishbone" analyses undertaken by justifiably concerned 1st Gen folks, particularly the '02 to '04 model year owners. The 2nd Gen posts throw them off the track and they skew the statistics. That is my only purpose in seeking exclusively 1st Gen posts in the aforementioned sticky.
I hope we don't evolve to the point where we need a dedicated 2nd Gen thread to document common experiences with fires. God help us if that ever happens. The 2nd Gen has been on the street for almost 5 years, is approaching (or maybe has exceeded) the number of 1st Gens out on the street, yet I know of only three documented cases of fires in these MINIs. The occasional freak occurrence is not unexpected, so that number of reports is not unexpected. It just happened in this case to be extremely bad luck for the OP. Like winning the lottery, only in reverse.
Carlisle, I'm on your side buddy.
OMG I am so sorry. I hope all of our "hugs" help. We all stand with you and understand the love you had for Clark. Others don't get it but we do!
Thank God you weren't parked in your garage or that no one got hurt.
Good luck to you.

Im not sure who is following this thread anymore but--- I thought I would update it since it was my original thread:
I bought a new car today. It is a 2009 Cooper S with JCW tuning kit, JCW aero kit, JCW suspension and coil covers, JCW exhaust... amongst other goodies. I guess it's a JCW-ish MCS then eh?
It also has boost and oil temp gages on the inside.
The car is VERY nice, and although not my first colour choice-- I could not pass up this deal. The car has never been owned, and was a dealer show car. It has a full warranty until 2015
In other news... an official BMW/MINI Engineer went to examine Clark yesterday... just waiting to see what she/he was able to deduce from the 6 week old wreckage of my car.
Anyone know what rims those are on my car?

I believe those would be Web Spokes in black? Great looking MINI! Looks like you moved up the ladder (not sure what Clark had in the way of mods). And with that kind of a warranty - smart move!
Enjoy, Carlisle! You deserve it!

Thanks you guys! It has been a LONG six weeks... Clark had a SLEW of M7 parts waiting to be installed for him...
they are now being repainted to add to this car: M7 Cwing spoiler, velocity throttle booster, AGS-R intake with aerogel turbo heat shield, M7 strut brace, carbon fiber shift ****, carbon fiber hood scoop... (I swear I am forgetting something... )
Those parts have been waiting around at the dealership for me since May!
I'm pretty excited. I love the black/silver/red theme. This was a smart move for me rather than buying a 2011... no regrets here!

new mini
That is a great color,,,,see what ours is painted. The pic shows my brother & my bride of 40yrs. I had to use that title since we were checkin' out a wind farm near his place. I've since blacked out the plastic around the grill, headlights & tail lamps.
Yes, they do look like the R105's - they are my favorite wheels - I just didn't recognize them in black!
Congrats from one dark silver MINI owner to another. Glad to see you back in a MINI and it is a beaut. Love the JCW brakes etc. I have the carbon fiber hood scoop and it looks awsome with dark silver (pics taken before CF installation).
Happy Motoring....again!!

Ooooo SOOO close! It's actually the Durham dealership in Ajax! But I live in Brantford! How crazy is that?!?! I swear I never run into people from my neck of the woods on here!
I LOVE the stripes on the side! That is a gorgeous MCS. Congrats on your long marriage too! I'm always so happy to hear about couples making it for so long... my own parents have been together for 35 years now...
I'm not exactly from your neck of the woods, but I am up there for business fairly often.
Durham is quite far... it's about a 2hr drive depending on traffic. It worked out well though because I found the perfect car there, and the insurance company I deal with is just down the road. I was able to pick up the cheque and buy the new car the same day!
