Seat belt in a twist

I've had my 2009 Cooper S Convertible for six months and the seat belt has gotten twisted twice. It cost $15 to bring it to the dealership and get it untwisted the first time, and I'm bringing it in again tomorrow. (This time it was my husband who got it twisted.) Anyone know why this happens and how I can prevent it?

Don't pay them to untwist it. Pull it all the way out and then just fold it back over itself all the way. It will take you 5 or 10 minutes the first time, after that it'll be easier.

To avoid it, have the seatbelt wearer release it from the buckle then hold onto it as it retracts. They are likely clicking and letting go, and thats when it gets all tangled.

Also, if you (or, more commonly, your front passenger) just let go of the seat belt, you risk damaging the paintwork by the flying latch.
