Gear Shift Indicator Light

I'm trying to figure out why my parents 2008 mini would not start this morning. I figured that it was the battery (had not been used for about 1 wk) and so I gave it a boost. It started fine after the boost but I noticed that the "P" or the Gear Shift Indicator Light stayed on after the car was turned off and the key removed. I'm assuming that this may be draining the battery - some sort of electrical fault?

Anyone have this problem before? Unfortunately my code reader is 2 hrs away and I won't have access to this until next week.

Thanks.

The Park Selector "P" will remain on after a MINI is shut off, it is not draining anything and won't cause battery or any other issues.

No Worries!!

That's good to know, thank you very much. Back to the drawing board. Perhaps they left a door ajar or something.

Cheers

I've heard that a MINI uses less juice when locked than if left unlocked. Something to do with how often the computer polls for a key fob. This may only be with Comfort Access. I'm not sure.
