Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
Well the chrome trim that encircles the outside of the key fob is missing from my newly inherited MINI (07 Cooper 18k miles). The key can be a bit jiggly in the dash slot without the extra trim on it. Anyone have a guess whether or not this will be covered by the warranty?
If you think about it, a car with "real" aka metal and plastic key would not have parts fall off of it or break that impedes its function.
It's just a snap-on piece of plastic trim that can be replaced in less than 10 seconds. If it cracks and is loose, you can use a tiny dab of plastic-compatable glue to retain it on the fob.
I don't blame you for trying to get it replaced under warranty, why not, others have said they were replaced for free. I'm pretty sure the dealers that replaced them for free, viewed it ( as I think all dealers should) as good will to make a customer smile. I paid $11 for mine, and I'm sure that wasn't the dealer's cost. So for about $5, and less that 1 minute of labor, the dealer can make you a happy camper that will probably spend lots of $$$'s at the dealership in the future. If I were a MINI dealer I would post a thread on NAM offering them for free to all MINI owners visiting my dealership. Think of the costs of this campaign, vs the opportunity of enhancing income. My pet peeve about the key fob is the little plastic disk that covers the battery. If for some reason you lose it, MINI doesn't offer a replacement part, you need to order a new key for about $300.
