Low oil pressure warning when taking a hard corner?
I have a 07 MC with about 40,000 miles on it, where the low oil pressure light comes on when I take a hard right turn. I mean a HARD right turn, where the tires are squealing and you feel like you're driving sideways! The light only stays on for about 3 seconds before it goes off.
Otherwise, the car behaves normally. It never shows a low oil pressure light at any other time, and the oil levels look fine.
Has anyone else seen an issue like this one? The light is a bit concerning, even though I've only seen it happen a few times while I'm driving like a crazy guy.
That light only comes on when oil pressure is critically low.Your probably about two quarts down. I'd check your dipstick again. After a track weekend I had that light come on traveling home. It's amazing how much oil passes through the pcv on these engines at high rpms.
it's oil starvation from being low and staying at a high lateral G. Get in touch with Revolution Mini Works (vendor here) and they have a baffled pick up. Even with good oil levels long sweepers can do this on the track.
+1 on the baffled pickup, but still I've never heard of the R56 having this issue unless you are very low on oil, but you should be checking that regularly.
I had this light come on to... As soon as it did I stopped driving it and took it straight to the dealer. They topped up the oil and that was it. I felt like such an idiot but then again it's my first car so i don't know...
Mine did the same thing when I'm about 5 K out from an oil change - associated with a bit rougher sound to the engine too. Topped up with a quart and both resolved,, for a while. Just had the valve cover gasket replaced, hope that will fix it properly.
Mini does not have baffles in the oil pan so this is likely to happen especially if you are low in oil. At the track, we put 1/4 quart more oil after the full mark to compensate for this.
Happened to me once doing a hard right turn, the check engine oil light came on for a few seconds. Took it to dealer the next day, they advise the engine burns a bit of oil throughout time so they just top it up and that's it. I've done about 8000km since last service, so a tiny oil burn is not that big of a issue for me. I had a Honda EP3R that burns like 1L engine oil every 3500km..
check engine oil warning came on and I took it to mini dealer. They said they topped it up, but the warning continues to appear during somewhat sharp turns. I find the dipstick hard to read, maybe because the oil is not registering on it(low)? So maybe they didn't top it or maybe I can't read the dipstick or could it be burning(no smoke)or leaking(no spotting)so much that the oil level is already low the next day? Anyone have problems with the oil pressure sensor? 2012 base countryman

You have to keep the oil level up, cars that burn oil a lot tend to run lower oil level and with a hard turn it staves the engine enough to get the low pressure lights. Seen cars below LOW and that happens.
Check your dipstick and add oil if needed. I run mine towards the top of mark near high, not in the middle area. If you have the old wire design get the newer stick
