Rebuilding the brake caliper
Rebuilding the brake caliper
Hello All,
My 2003 Cooper's rear right brake caliper is in trouble.
It seems like being stuck and makes a lot of heat after some driving.
I pulled off the wheel and caliper and found that the dust boot is out of its place.
Now, I decided to rebuild it myself - well.. if there are any reasonable reason not to, I won't
- and I need some help because it's rear caliper and it has a parking brake mechanism integrated.
1. Is it easy to rebuild like front?
2. any diagram of rear caliper?
3. Should I bleed all 4 wheels after replacing the caliper or just one is OK?
Any other helpful tips are welcome.
Thank you very much.
Ed.

so piston stuck? how much is new caliper? is it worth time and aggravation?
just bleed the rears or just the one line but keep fluid in master full (abs) .pinch off the line with line pliers while you swap it out .

Repair kit (dust boot and accessories) would be around $10 and it will take a long time.
New caliper (A1 Cardone) is about $80 (dealer would say $300+) and it will be just quick swap.
I should just replace the caliper.
I haven't done replacing caliper before and big question here I missed above is "How to remove and attach back the brake line?"
I also have a bottle of Mercedes-Benz brake fluid. Can I use this in my Mini, too?
Thanks !!

get some line pliers to pinch the rubber line so you dont lose too much fluid; remove the bolt attaching line to caliper remove caliper . reattach new caliper and place new copper washers (one on each side of line) reattach bolt and tighten . pull pliers off line and bleed system .
