They ballparked it on the phone, then I took the car over there and they quoted me $800 for parts and labor to replace the compressor, condenser and the drier. All brand new parts, no refurbished. That's half the price and only $150 more than the compressor, ALONE, that the other shop wanted to charge me. I suggest trying to find an AC specialty shop as they may be able to get parts cheaper because that's all they work on.

Did you experience any symtoms before your A/C died?

I did. I bought the car about 3-4 months ago and since that time it was blowing cold, but it would sort of fade in and out sometimes. It was still cold air, but all of the sudden it would just blow at a lower speed. I thought it was odd, but wasn't sure if that's just what this car did. Needless to say, I didn't think anything of it until one day I heard this strange sound. Sounded like a bunch of marbles being bounced around in the engine bay. I immediately said a prayer that it wasn't the supercharger, but I had just pulled into my work parking lot so there wasn't much I could do. I left to go home and there was no noise; however, the air wasn't blowing cold anymore. It was cool, but not cold like it usually was. Later that evening I got on the highway and all the sudden I hear a different sound. This time it's a high pitched squeal. That noise lasted all of 10 seconds and then I got hot air. End of story. Good luck with yours. I'm currently awaiting a call from the shop when the parts arrive for surgery.

Well I just received some bad news. Shop called and said it was more work than they thought. Gonna be another $500, totaling $1400. No thanks. I'm going to buy the parts from them and do this myself -- with the help of a friend. It can't be that hard; just time consuming.

Reviving this thread...

Have you fixed the AC? What was wrong with it? The compressor, clutch?
