Cruise control out--specific questions

2003 MCS with nearly 160K miles. Cruise control refuses to power on for last 3 days. 2 blinks of the green indicator light and nothing more. I've reset the ECM, multiple restarts, even scanned OBD. I've pored over the Bentley manual and done the requisite searches on this site. No other apparent driveability problems.

Couple specific questions: If brake lights are functioning, can one of the brake light switches still be the culprit? (Seeing that there is also a second "test" switch which is used for "safety plausibility check," which strikes me as an odd phrase)

Likewise, if car starts when clutch depressed, could clutch switch still be a cause?

Last time cruise went out on one of my vehicles I wound up with 2 speeding tickets before I could get it fixed.

Thanks,

Tom

(1) Brake switch is always a good candidate. If you don't have a code for it, you can test it with a multimeter.

(2) If the clutch starts when depressed, you can rule out the switch.

I'm not totally familiar with MINI, but check fuses if there's an applicable one. If not, cruise control is part of another module and would best be serviced by a dealer.

Good luck!

Just as a follow-up, as I hate threads asking for help with problems and no post on the resolution. Few days ago had my BPV go out. Here's the thread:

After making the repair my CC works just fine! Maybe just coincidence but I post this in case someone else may have same symptoms. I'm not sure why this would have happened as the driveability problem with the bypass valve failure was rather abrupt and nearly 2 weeks after the cruise failed.

it seems it's ALL tied together!

I had the cruise on my '03 fail 4 times in a year or so. The first time they replaced the brake light switch, second time same thing. Third time the steering angle sensor. 4th time the ignition switch (just the electrical part) and since then it's worked fine. Could it have been the ign switch all along?
Who knows?
