'03 MCS Engine Parts Cost???

I currently have an '03 MCS with a spun main bearing. After we tore the bottom half apart to access the damage we started to search for parts and/ or engines. What is with the parts cost for these engines. I have prices of $700-800 for just rod and main bearings!! This is unbelievable to say the least.
I then checked for a take out engine and find that these engines go for on average $3K for a decent one WITHOUT supercharger which everyone seems to remove and part out seperately. How the hell are you supposed to repair these engines when something like this happens??
Does anyone have a good source for internal rebuild parts??

TIA'

High Cost Of Engine Internal Parts

Have you checked to see if any of the Chrysler Neon 2.0l or SRT4 2.4l engine
bearings might interchange with the Mini?

I was actually thinking about the same thing. Apparently our thermostats actually have chrysler logos on them. It would hurt to ask around a bit.

I'll check that idea out. It's just a shame that we Mini owners seem to be held hostage when it comes to engine rebuild parts. A full set of rod and main bearings for a BMW3.5L only runs $150 or so and the Mini set for 4 cylinders runs $800. If that isn't highway robbery I don't know what is.
I have been searching daily since I originally posted and have yet to find any parts. It seems to be the only engine out there where no parts are available for rebuilding and the highest price out there for used engines. I can buy a low mileage Mercedes V8 for $1500 cheaper than a Mini of the same mileage.
If not for already owning two MCS, I would have to think seriously about ever purchasing one again, just for this reason alone.
I still have to get this one running, so I'll check out the Neon connection.

Thanks for the advice,
