I just attempted to change out my valve cover gasket and it just wasn't working out. I got the bentley manual that gives pretty much the same description as above but for the life of me I could not get the valve cover off. It just would not clear that plastic cover to the fuel rail. The two tabs that the plastic engine cover click into to be specific. I have an automatic.... does that make a difference? Any tips? I really don't want to take it to the dealer. do i have to take the fuel rail off?
Is that a Cooper??
I have had mine off about 6-8 times now and still havent replaced the seal and doesnt leak one bit. Must be lucky I guess
but the process is exactly as about but being careful not to damage the plug tube seals.

It's a cooper and the gasket is leaking. I am planning on replacing the plug tube seals also but I just can't get the cover off. There has to be something I am missing here. Two of the front bolts are partially covered by this plastic cover for the fuel rail. I have to jam a socket in there to unscrew them but that is the area that won't clear.
does anyone know of a better write up for a valve cover gasket change? it's not a difficult job, and my main quesiton is about the tube seals...do they really need to be changed? and if so, what's the part number...i can't find them anywhere???
off and on many times and never changed any of the seals including the valve cover. I would recommend that you do but the tube seals I wouldnt say are important as they are only to stop oil splashing out.
At 91K miles pulled #1 spark plug and noticed dripping oil from the electrode....then checked the bottom of cyl tube and saw oil. Same but not as bad for #2 cyl.
Tube seals were shot. Replaced along with a new valve cover gasket.....
FYI - Like most of the MINI's nuts and bolts the valve cover bolts often are pretty corroded and can be difficult to remove.... I would order up some from MINI to have on hand before tackeling this job. There are several different types of bolts which hold it down.
But for the sake of being thorough, I ordered all 12.

anyone have the pics from the DIY above? in addition, do you guys use any RTV sealant to attach the gasket to the valve cover prior to re-installation?

no choice but to at least pull this cover off for me... The nuts holding mine on in the front are completely rusted away. I figure I will just take it all off and clean it up while I am in there... Pix def. appreciated guys!
I was doing my detroit tuned BPV when I noticed the nuts were all but missing (just some dust left)...

Leaking valve cover gasket
I have 35K miles on my 08 clubmanS and it has a leaking valve cover gasket. Now that I am out of warranty how much should it cost to get fixed? I extended my warranty last year and hope it will be covered under that extension from Mini. The warranty is with mini.
