Reprogram DME after bypass valve install?

I've read a lot about bypass valve problems (re: car going into limp mode, etc). I think I've got those symptoms (getting error code P1688) and likely going to replace the bypass valve. Does the DME have to be reprogrammed after the install? I would understand if it needed to be reset (per Detroit Tuned instructions), but reprogrammed? I am asking because I have a service invoice estimate from a mechanic that includes reprogramming and I don't want to shell out those bucks if I don't have to.

Thanks...

If you are using factory spec hardware there is nothing to reprogram as the required parameters are already present; you should clear the codes after the work is done and the system will relearn automatically.

The codes can be cleared by disconnecting the battery if you do not wish to incur a charge for clearing the code.
