tachometer problem

When I start my Cooper Cabrio CVT, the tacho jumps and rapdily stutters for about 3 seconds, then resumes normal operation till the engine is restarted. Any ideas on a fix would be very much appreciated.

The gauges are completely electronic, so it could be getting a bad signal or the magnetic induction device that drives the needle could be going bad.

Check your battery, the tach will do this if you have a weak battery.
