brake pad corrosion?

i checked my front pads today and i noticed some corrosion and chipping on the pad edges itself. i removed the pads and there's corrosion and chipping all around the edges that touches the rotor. i'm on my original pads and still thick. the rears are okay. thanks!

That probably has a lot to do with the weather in the Philippines - especially if you are near the water. Brake pad material is partially made of metals, ceramics and other elements that will rust - especially when exposed to salt water climates. I've also seen that on cars that don't get a lot of use.

It looks like the pads are pretty worn already and you are probably due for new pads and rotors. If you do your own work on the car, spend some time with a wire brush cleaning up the caliper so it doesn't get rustier and replace the pads and rotors. Wear a mask or ventilator as its probably not uber healthy to breath in brake dust and the brushing will cause the dust to disperse.

By the pics it looks like the car does not move much. What I think your seeing is the rust coming off the rotors. Iam guessing that it would wipe right off the pads. Take it easy when braking till the rotors clean up with all that rust on the face of the rotor it is going to be much more grippy!

I was stationed at Andersen AFB back in 1991-92 and shipped my MGB to Guam; I had a similar problem with the brakes. I noted the foreward rotors would rust in very short time and if the MGB would sit for more than a few days the brake pads would stick to the rotors. Naturally, when I tried to drive out of my parking spot the first time this happened, I thought I broke something in the suspension.
