Hi Guys
My daughter has a 2005 Mini not the S 32.000 KM and when you have some load in 2/3/4 gear there a resonance between 2000 to 2200 RPM that sound like a piece of tin that rattles, the dealer checked it 4 time and replace the transmission but the resonance remain does anyone have any idea.

I have heard that noise several times on the 05 and later cars. Seems to be after they switched to the Getrag transmission. We have switched one out to try and fix one as well to no avail....just the same. I think it is just characteristic of that car, that load with that transmission. The engine is out of the powerband at that RPM anyway, almost a little like it lugs from not having the power that low.

You Indicate 5th gear this one does is in really all gear when a small load and it seam to be a heat shield that goes into resonance, you are right at 2000 rpm is low, what make it unpleasent is when driving slow in town with the window open close to building or a wall sure makes it should like a run down car.

Thanks Ray

I have always thought that the Getrag was much noisier than the Midlands transmission(which was switched out in 2005). I think it is in the transmission and is characteristic, but....If you think differently, your dealer or mechanic could use a "Steelman Chassis Ear" to localize the noise. I haven't really tried in all gears, second and third have always seemed to be more able to make it happen, usually because the speed is low(therefore the roadnoise is lower) and it's just easier to hear.
