Removing PS pump
Removing PS pump
Thanks to some threads here, I had no problems removing my PS fan and getting to the pump. I see that the pump sits on a "cradle" of 4 elastomer pieces with a nut holding it down on each one. I was able to undo the "front" two nuts, and one of the back ones over the "skid plate" from behind...but there is still another nut holding it on (I think on the driver side) that I cannot seem to get a wrench on. What's the trick?
Thanks!

You don't want to remove the 4 elastomer pieces until the pump is out from under the car and you're re-installing them on the new pump.
There are two nuts/bolts affixed to the pump just behind the front axle that are a PITA to get to, but that's what's keeping you from re-moving the pump. They are very difficult to see, but if you get your hand behind the pump and feel around you'll know what I'm talking about. Try a smaller socket wrench and with patience, both will come undone.
However, the most difficult part after you get all the parts unbolted will be slipping the pump up and over the hole/cradle it sits in. You may need to break-out the Dremel and slice a "v" shape in the cradle which will allow you to slide the entire pump forward.

I will have to take another look. The pump is rocking as if it is ready to come out but for that one last nut on top of the elastomer mount. I'll look for those other nuts. What do they hold down? The cradle itself?
BTW I took your pump apart and it was FILLED with copper dust, so that obviously must have been a problem

They secure directly into the pump cradle. There's two bolts there. You'll have to crane your neck to see them, but you should be able to feel them with your hands... just takes a bit of a contortionist to remove them.
