UGH!! YAY!! ehhh hahahaha

so took my car (2007 pw/b Cooper S 22300 miles? bought around '07 march) in because it was making a bunch of noises, engine, exhaust, and i was loosing power.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuzuS86Z3qY (engine noise / idling)
&
http://youtube.com/watch?v=NmEWaAi1dyU (exhaust)

so i took it to the dealer(wednesday, july 17th), and they had it over the weekend, they couldn't find what the problem was until today! (july 23rd).

They found out something is wrong with the blocks?
they said that they need to replace the large block? but the part has been on backorder, and so they'll try to change the short block? (i don't really know what he said)

but the service guy gave me a loaner and it was 328ci haha i thought i was supposed to get a mini, but it's a nice car but I WANT MY MINI to be fixed!!! i miss the handling for that car :(

don't get me wrong the 328ci is freaking sickkkk just doesn't feel right to be driving someone else's car. (if that makes sense, I wish i could keep the car but oh well).

yeah... they don't know when they're goin to get the parts, but i'm thinking it's a seirous problem... friend explained it to me, (i can't explain it back but yeah... ) but anyone have this problem as well?

have you gotten a 328 as well?

i thought i was supposed to get a mini for a loaner, OH btw, I think they only loan out cars for a maximum of 5days, and so crevier said that they'll switch me over to enterprise.

answers/comments/questions please!

I could be wrong, but it sounds like they are replacing your ENGINE.

I think a long (?) block means the entire engine including the heads, valves, oil pan, etc. A short block means the basic engine block on to which they transfer your existing heads, etc.

If I am right, that is a major repair. You may be in that BMW for a while.

I must have an awesome dealership. My dealership let me take a loaner MINI on my 2200 mile roadtrip last summer while they were replacing the transmission mine.

Is the dealership doing the work under warranty?

Do you have any mods installed?

I'd sure hate to hear that they told you the work is being submitted under warranty...and then MINIUSA denies the warranty claim and you end up with the bill for the work.

If you signed any papers, did you get copies?

I just think it's odd that the HEART of your MINI is being replaced and they didn't tell you how it could've happened. (Or DID they tell you a probable cause and you forgot to post that particular info?)

That's exactly what it means.

Shortblock = Block, Crank, Rods, Pistons, etc.

Longblock = Shortblock + Head(s), cam(s), intake manifolds, etc.

Unfortunately, the Mini has to get a new engine already... but I guess the good news is that they aren't trying to just put a bandaid on the situation when a new engine is the real solution.
