Does anyone out there know the wattage and type of bulbs (h-1, h-7 etc) that are
in the mcs & if they can be changed to higher wattage ones?

the fogs are 55 watt H7's - but supposedly, they have a "special" base or something and the factory ones are the only ones to fit; the aftermarket should catch up soon with replacements ...

 

Why would you want brighter fog lights?

Isn't the whole idea of fogs not to throw too much
light in front of you?

Or do like them for decoration.

 

Maybe the brighter lights can be used like tiny "in-bumper" rally lights. I know my fog lights throw much more light onto the road for me and I almost never have fog in Hawaii.

 

The fog lights in my 10/02 build 2003 MCS are NOT H7 bulbs. They are 55w H11 bulbs.

Why brighter lights? You'll go blind from looking at your new mcs anyway. No you can't take the User's Manual into the bathroom. See you in a couple of weeks.

 

thanks for the info, sounds like i'll have to wait for mid october and see what my '04 has in it as it sounds like there are several different bulb types... counting the days and ordering aftermarket stuff. :smile:

 

6/02 and later have h-11's earlier cars have h-7's. From previous experience with people who think brighter is better (not the case for fogs) people who upgrade to 100 watt bulbs almost always crack the lenses from increased heat.

 

I don't recommend increasing the wattage of the foglight bulbs, anything more will melt the housing or crack the lens. Most people want to change the bulbs to more closely match their factory Xenons or to get the HID effect with a blue-tint bulb. O have heard horror stories about people installing 75 or 100 watt bulbs in their non-xenon headlights and melting the reflectors and/or diffusers. The MINI halogen lights are some of the best I have seen from a stock headlight.
