R56 Auto A/C Issue

This past weekend I was freeway driving when I noticed something unusual. I had started my MINI cold and was about five miles from that when I noticed only hot air circulating through the vents even though I had the auto A/C set at 60 degrees. I fiddled around with the temp, using manual override, A/C on and off, etc., but nothing worked to get a cooler temp or change the vents. Finally, I decided to turn the system completely off and pull over at the next available location to restart the MINI. During the next ten minutes, I tried turning the system back on with no luck, so I again turned it off. Finally, just as I was about pull over, I tried it one more time and it worked.

I drove plenty after that and it never happened again.

Has anyone had this happen? I think it was probably just a computer glitch, but maybe someone else had this happen too and can offer some insight.

It could be the blend motor/flaps. I think it affected some BMWs back then. Not sure about the MINIs.

Thanks for your input!

It could be that the flaps weren't functioning properly...but the entire time it was happening, it had the feeling of a computer glitch because both the temperature and vent designates wouldn't change--the only thing I could do was adjust fan speed.

Hopefully, it was just a fluke.

I had something similar. See this thread.

Mine was slightly different in that I could change the temperature, vent option, and fan speed, however only hot air would come out.

This only happened once and hasn't returned. Also the error code I had in the car's system cleared by itself.

I think what happened to you is very similar to my experience. Ultimately, it was probably a simple computer glitch--but here's hoping that it doesn't happen again!
