a/c problems! My girls are mad!

hey nam buddies! I've got a problem. When I first got my 03 mini non s, 3 years ago, the ac in it was rather poor. But I thought that was normal. Now it cut out. The fan is still blowing air, it isnt cold and the car sounds like it is trying to work at cooling the air, but something is up. I'm thinking the ac condenser but not 100% shure. Anyone have the same problem? Or any advise?

Has anyone checked the refrigerant level/pressure for you? It could be just a little low. Tahat's the extent of my knowledge.

Just recharged the AC in my '98 Subaru - $35@ Kragen for a bottle of R134a and pressure gauge. It's cold now.
My MINI wasn't blowing so cold today. Guess I'll check it, too.

Funny how my '85 CRX still blows cold, 23 years/200K miles later.
Is the R12 more resilient than the R134a??

Well, R-134 requires higher system pressures than R-12, so I suppose there's a greater potential for leaks.

You might check the relays in the fuse box (in the engine compartment). Mine did the same thing and I thought the worst. Turns out that the A/C relay came loose from the socket and the A/C quit. Plugged it back in all the way and A/C works again.

I think it may be the rough roads combined with the short wheelbase and stiff suspension, bouncing over time....

Good Luck,
Mike

So, friday9x.. what happened ?

My A/C is doing the EXACT SAME problem.. It's not blowing cold air anymore and when I press the A/C button I hear like a compressor trying to work but it gives no results..

I just scheduled a rendez-vous at my local Mini dealership but if it could be fixed easily it would avoid me taking a day off at the office.. I'd rather take a day off for a day of driving/hicking than to wait for my car at my dealership ;-)

add some new coolant using a charger. I belive the minis is 134a or something like that. Super easy to do. Costs about $30, takes 2 min. Works like a charm!!
