I can think of a couple of reasons why your airbag light would be coming one, but what puzzles me is why it would go back off. I was under the impression that an airbag light wouldn't clear on its own, and had to be cleared by the dealer (or another shop with the proper tool - not just a typical OBC scanner/clearing tool).

I'd check the electrical connections under the passenger seat to start with, but before you disconnect any plugs down there, disconnect the battery, and don't reconnect the battery until you have all the plugs back in place, since turning on the car's ignition with the passenger-side plugs unplugged *will* cause an unclearable airbag light.

My guess is that you have a later model MINI and its a faulty seat mat sensor which is the reason that the pass seat airbag lamps goes on/off.

I agree that something with the passenger-side pressure sensor is probably causing the issue with the passenger-side light going on and off.

I still don't know what would cause the airbag warning light to go on and off, though. Like I said in my other post, usually once the airbag light goes on, it won't go off again until the dealer resets it.
