Need a new battery...suggestions?

My battery is dying. Are there any suggestions for a replacement? Will any ole battery work ok or does it need to be a special one? Let me know. Thanks in advance!

The MC uses a group 47 battery, but not all of them fit.
The MCS also uses a group 47 battery, and not all of them fit, and
some that fit the MC don't fit the MCS and vice versa.

Here's a thread I started about MC battery options.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=105283

and Cooper99 started one about MCS battery options before that.

Hey cristo, thanks for the link. So it looks like not just any battery fits. I have off work for most of the day tomorrow so I was hoping to get this done then. I'll have to read up on this more.

two options

two options

a) other posters have said the correct OPTIMA is a 34R. I'm a great fan of the OPTIMA red top and recommend them....but you may have trouble finding one in stock.

b) son's battery in the 02S just died and the local AutoZone had one of their better models -right size and # per their computer - on the shelf....no waiting no hassle and a perfect fit.

Don't make this a bigger issue then need be....the battery isn't that wierd of a size altho the best fit is an "r" type, meaning the normal terminal positions are reversed.

Now if ya wanna have an issue about the right battry get an NA series Miata. That's a unique battery!

I've bought several batteries at AutoZone, not for the MINI though, and have had good luck with all of them. Prices on batteries are very good at AutoZone.

Got a new battery from NAPA. I think they're part number is 5475. I'll double check that. Anyway, I popped the old one out and dropped in the NAPA battery. It fit like a glove. The metal strip that holds the battery down is a bit of a tight fit on the left side, so I got a bigger bolt to secure it. Total is about $90 after core return.

Thanks all for the tips!
