Clutch Release noise

I was wondering if its normal to hear a minor thump (engine shifting) when releasing the clutch between upshifting in higher gears...i can tell its from the engine being about 100-300 rpm lower than it should when i finally fully release the clutch...i shift quite fast, but sometimes in the higher gears at more relaxed driving I notice it faintly with radio off

I guess I'm just trying to see if this is a normal thing with stick shift or if I really need to release the clutch a little slower in these higher gears?

Thank you

thump

checkercoop,
I do get a thump (08 base mini), but so far only noticeable to me when shifting into first gear after a full stop - sounds like a distant "thump" from a hatch being closed is the best way I can describe it.

Yeah i think thats the sound I hear too...i usually notice mine from 4-5 or 5-6 and I can see on the tach its because the engine is about 100 rpm lower for that gear...they are soo close the gears so I shift fast and usually i make it but the thump happenes offten because its easy to be 100 rpm lower on those gears

thump thump

Sounds like the same thing. I also suspect mine does it with other gears too, but I just haven't noticed it yet.
