Yesterday and today, at random times, I would get back in the car to get going, put the key in, turn it with clutch in, and nothing. Electrical system working like usual, but it simply wouldn't turn over the engine, the starter wasn't even working, just zip nothing. Trying it immediately after again never works, I just put the key in, turn it (but not start it) and leave it there for 2 minutes, engine starts up. What the hell is going on? Yesterday I shrugged it off, but today this is freaking me out!

I got the pulley just 5 days ago and this has never happened before, could anything have gotten screwed up from the installation? Would it have anything to do with the fact that it's triple digits outside and a/c is on? Starting up cold in the mornings hasn't given me a problem (so far?) Boooo!

Thanks for your help

Don't have any Mods yet,
but I do notice that my "S" doesn't like to start after a short run, EG: 3 miles
I have very little miles on my coop's, but then again it's 3 miles from door
to work.BMW suggest that warm the whole car up, drive ut easy till warm, BS!
if I do that I be at work, my '02 coop doesn't like that at all.
(not pulling out to a highway, knowing that the car will stumble)
as for my "s" she will run fine cold, but short run, really doesn't want to start.
Going to get upgrade, even thinking 'bout chip fot the coop, hoping that
the upgrade will ure these probs.

just my 1/2 cent worth

Glenn

Okay guys so the problem happened today, again. Except this time it refused to start for too long no matter how long I waited or tried different "tricks." I borrowed my fathers car because I had a class to get to and I was a bit late because of it, GRR

I am getting the car towed to the dealer today, hopefully they will replace my engine wiring harness or whatever it needs to work again. Also Randy pointed out that my coolant tank was leaking last week, so I will tell them to replace that as well. What a burn.

I'm going to put my stock intake back on just for the hell of it, pulley they will see though. If they give me **** for that I will go insane. What do you guys think the dealer will say, or not say? Anyways, will keep you posted.

Btw: search brings up taht this happened to a lot of cvt's and coopers, but rarely MC S's... hmm?

Wow that's interesting, I would love to check but the car is out at the service center already. Doh! I've checked out the battery connections months ago when I was just checking out that area of the car for the hell of it and I remember them being on tight. Thanks for the tip though.

Update...

I have the car back for about 5 days now and all is working fine.

The dealer ended up replacing the starter, saying it was defective (and a rare problem).
They flushed my coolant and replaced the tank that had been leaking with the new, revised, white one. Fresh coolant sounds good to me.
There was also some recalled fan diode that was replaced, seems like a very small thing but important enough that they are changing it for any mini's that come in for any service regardless.

The service was done very well at Universal City MINI (for those in LA). This was the first time I took my car in for service and despite all the bad comments i've heard about Universal City's service (i've only heard 1-2 positive comments on their service), mine went smoothly. For what it's worth, I have the Alta Pulley installed and they did not give me any crap for that, no mention of it at all. I have the Pilo as well but I swapped it to stock before taking it to the service because it's a simple 5 minute job and why not?

Mini is happy, I'm happy, Good night all

PS: Hope to see some of you in LA at the funrun this saturday (check so cal events section).
