Bad Ball Joint at 1400 miles?

Just bought an 07 mini with 5 miles on the clicker, now have 1400 miles and have a bad right ball joint. My little Blue Ox has not even seen a dirt road yet, Sandia Mini is odering a replacement........ Anyone else ever heard of this? A search did not reveil anything
