So, my just out of warrantee car has developed some type of rattle behind the passenger dash area that sounds more or less like a diesel truck at idle. It happens when my car is idling and goes away completely if I give it a touch of gas. Anyone have an idea what to start checking?

 

Since it's just out of warranty, take it to a dealer. You might get lucky.

 

Sounds like it could be something simple, like an exhaust heat shield.

 

Well, the warrantee expired 11-15-07 and they did already fix one or 2 things for me a month after, plus the dealer is a touch over 2 hours away so I probably wont go that route.

It truly sounds like it is coming from behind the glove box. I was hoping someone would say hay, there is such and such piece that comes loose there to give me a starting point, but I guess I will have to do some digging one weekend.

 

Check the engine mount.
