anybody else out there as lucky as me?
We got our Chili Red the weekend they came out by luck - not on wait list and not over list price from Mtn View CA.
Think perhaps our luck ran out there....in order of event:
1) Car stuck in reverse in bank parking lot - car was towed in and I got recall notice that day!.
2) Youth from apartment building was mad due to me reprimanding him for throwing water balloons off 11th floor - He hit the mini and
then that night did extensive key job, slit all four tires and threw eggs etc at car. This was about $5,000. for the new paint job. He did
cover my out of pocket expenses - my insurance the rest. Took this opportunity to upgrade to 16 knock offs for close to the same price
for 15 tires. Car wanders to the left - still has not been corrected -perhaps due to bad tow job?
3) Returning from Lake Tahoe vacation engine w/ about 20k miles started making a racket( 1 day before my service apt) - Car was towed to Niello in SAC and
18 days latter got the car back w/ a new reman, engine due to a thrown rod. Roadside assistance paid for meal and nights lodging and
Niello paid for the remainder of the rent a car - A Nissan Xtera!!! - They wanted to give me a Suburban! To add to this the tow truck driver kept
Slamming the back hatch w/ his hand on the release and then put a huge dent in the rear to the tune of $1K more in body damage
the tow truck / body shop performed.
4) Car is going back to Mt. View next week for warranty work to fix the drift....
I'm thinking this car would have been a good one to use in The Italian Job and they could have given us a new one!!!

That's quite a story! When we ever get this national club going you should win the Hard Luck award for this year. Not a award anybody wants but I can't see how anyone can top that.

That is sad news. The car should not have been towed. It should go on a
flatbed and any damage should be paid by the tow company.
Out of curiosity...did you wait until 10K for your first oil change?
Good luck with the repair work.

Wow! I've never even heard of a modern car throwing a rod! Well, I mean a modern *foreign* car. Oh wait, forgot. The MINI is actually made by Chrylser. Nevermind.

You know, there's all this resale value and stuff. Maybe time to place an order for a shiny new '04. Probably wouldn't cost more than the routine vandalism and with the super low interest rates you could probably just make a clean switch with no cash and no payment increase if you're willing to add an extra year to your current payoff date.

WOW you really must of chewed that kid good for him to do all that damage. If he would have done that to mine his parents would be attending his funeral....Little bastard.

First oil change as they say...thought about 1 sooner...
Flat bed was used for all towing - but twice they did not have the webbing they are to have...
Thinking about the warranty on the 2nd engine...I paid for extended one year as to hit a major service and will not do it as
we had about 22K when 2nd engine put in - I think I will talk w/ them....
