Another Dash Rattle Fix

I didn't have a rattle there, but discovered these while installing my Kuda mount

I've been having this dash rattle in front of the speedo over bumpy roads. As tipped by Unixgal, I checked these screws since I had removed them in the past while installing my Kuda mount. They were on tight, but I noticed that the snap-out covers wiggled quite a bit so I left them off. No more rattle. Maybe I loosened these snap-out covers when I removed them before? Anyway, looks fine without them, so I'm not going to bother putting them back and figuring out how to secure them better.

Sad thing is I had a dream about doing this the night before.

Also, I fixed my rattling radar detector, the Escort 9500i, that was clipped to the headliner just to the left of the rear-view mirror. I lined the outside of the visor clip with the fuzzy-side of velcro tape to dampen its contact against the roof and windshield. I then put the hook-side of velcro on the top of my radar detector in front of the buttons. Now when it is clipped, it doesn't slide or bounce around.

Now, I am going to tackle my sunroof trim rattles with some foam tape.

sounds like a job.

I really appreciate your instructions. I knew of the noise comming from the dash/speedo/air duct. but not quite sure how to approach it. did you disassemble the dash or did you lay down on the floor mat and find a hole to stick your arm through? thanks again

no need to take apart the dash. from above, just pull the snap-out vent pieces as circled by unixgal. first, check if they are loose or not. they may not be the cause of your rattle.

I thought my rattle was coming from there, too. Turned out the tach housing needed tightening. check the 3 phillipls screws on the back of the tach. Go slow--its only plastic.

Worked perfectly--rattle gone.

I think I'm going to also try that. The rattle is driving me crazy. Another trick I've done in the past with other cars is to put some silicon grease or vaseline on the plastic pieces that rub. It usually does the trick as well.
