What is my Mini trying to tell me ??

Every once and awhile the Mini C sounds a soft tone and then flashes 37 Temp in the Tach display..........but the temp is nowhere near 37 degrees
It does this even though the Tach display is set for MPH, not Temp

Any ideas what triggers this

It has done it when the outside temp is in the 70s and everywhere in between must be a faulty sensor

Well, it's normal for the OBC display to flip to the temp readout when it gives the 37°F ding, even if you were previously displaying MPH (or anything else), but it's obviously not normal for it to do it when it's 70°F out.

I agree - it sounds like a sensor problem.

yes, but black ice and regular ice can be present at temps below 40F, especially in spots the sun hasn't hit yet (like early AM shadows)
