Newbie MINI Cooper S Owner with a Mystery already
Hey guys, I'm a new Mini Cooper S owner and proud! Just got the car 2 days ago, and I already fell in love with it. I got a used one cuz I'm still a college student, can't afford a new one. Anyways, it's a 2004 Cooper S, Pepper white, 50K miles.
Here's the problem for you Mini Professionals.
When my cousin (who drives a Mini xD) took a look at it yesterday, he was wondering why my mini came with dual sun roofs, dsc package but it doesn't have 17 inch rims. He's sure it doesn't include the premium package, nor the sports package. Can anyone kindly explain?
The other thing is while I was driving it home today from class, the Engine Oil Light dinged and came on (red). Good thing I was close to home, and once I parked it and just let it idle, the light was still on. So i turned off the engine for about 5 min. then turned it back on and the light was still on. Then I checked the Oil with the dipstick...I'm kind new but i followed the instructions wiped, the dipstick and stuck it back in and pulled it out, I'm not sure what this means but there was a bit of oil on the bottom of the dip stick about 2 inches from the very tip. It was clean oil (I know that much ><) Is this enough oil? I turned the engine back on and the light turned off... weird... But I called the dealership cuz it has a 30 day warranty, and they said they has a oil change before they handed over the car.
But either way I'm bringing it in tomorrow to get it checked at the dealership after I get the inspection sticker.
Here's the link if you guys want to check out the car:

Somebody want to give me their thoughts?

When you see the oil light come on, you don't drive anywhere... you turn off the engine and stop the car as absolutely quickly as is safe.. you don't even drive to the next exit... the light means (if it is working properly, and that is all you can assume at this point) that you don't have oil pressure (or at least it is low enough to turn on the light at 3-4 psi). This light is not a warning light, it is three to tell you you are in trouble, right now.
Pull off the road, check the oil level (learn how to read the dipstick) and add oil. If you learn you car is going to use oil, then check it more frequently, and have 2-3 quarts in the boot.
Hopefully, as stated before, you just have a faulty oil pressure sending unit. But find out and get it fixed. And until you learn the oil consumption habits of your new ride, check it very frequently.
good luck

Wow, thanks for the responses guys. But yeah, I turned on the car later again, and the light didn't come on. Theres no weird noises from the engine when it's idle. I drove it to work and back, and it seems like nothing is wrong with it.
Oh might I mention that the light came on earlier when I was going up a very steep hill? Might that have something to do with it?
