Something wrong with my Mini?

A couple of weeks ago, for the first time I put my 04 MC automatic in neutral and revved the engine. I noticed that the tach didn't rev beyond 2k RPMs, no matter how much I depressed on the gas pedal. I thought this was normal. I tested this again a couple of more times over the week with the same results. Today, my car felt a bit sluggish in the 20-40 mph range, so I did the same thing while stopped at a red light and noticed that the engine does freely rev beyond 2k RPMs and way beyond (in neutral). So what gives? Something wrong with the engine management or fuel injection system? Whats normal? Car has 500 miles of warranty....Im afraid the dealer is going to tell me that they cant replicate the issue and have the car fail me after the warranty period is over.

Dealer responsibility

Drive (or get the car towed) to your dealer. Even if it can't be replicated, you can document your problem and if it fails further down the road, you can tell BMW/Mini that you report the issue to them before the warranty expired. Good luck !

Does it drive normally in gear? I think I'd call roadside and have it towed in. Sounds like you can replicate it on command, so if anything be there when it shows up and show them.
Reporting it before the warranty ends is imperative!

In my 2003 CVT I cannot rev past 2k in Neutral either or 3 or 4k in park

I was told this is normal.

Car drives fine.

but for being sluggish that I would have checked out
