My new-to-me '05 MCSC started spewing oil from the motor mount last week.(40k miles). I am over 250 miles from the nearest dealer, and have just found that I have warranty coverage until 02-09 (or 50,000 miles, which will certainly come sooner!)
I've seen several threads where the poster said that the dealer had the MINI towed in rather than having it driven in with a failing motor mount. I've seen other posts indicating that they've driven for months with a leaky mount.
I certainly don't want to be over a hundred miles from home and still over a hundred miles from the dealer and start hearing that "clunk" of a failed mount. I figure I'll spend the $70 for the mount and install it myself rather than making the eight-plus hour round trip for a warranty install. Any thoughts?

Motor mount should be pretty easy to change. You can really just follow Randy Webb's supercharger instructions to get the engine off of it and then swap it out. Pretty straight forward.

I replaced it myself, and it was an easy straight forward job; take out bolts, put in mount, replace bolts. The only scary part was when I took out the last bolt that held it to the motor and saw the engine drop an inch, if I have to do it again I will be sure to use a jack to hold up the engine beforehand, I realy can't ruin another pair of pants

lift the vehicle and place jack stands on both sides. take the jack with a piece of wood on it and place it under the engine. jack it up till it touches the spot you are supporting it from and then go a little more. then you can remove the motor mount and the engine won't drop. then raise or lower the jack to suit your needs to install the new mount. easy as that
Replaced the motor mount myself this weekend. Thanks to GoLikeShnell's post on this thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co....php?p=1767829
Pretty straightforward, as omascow said. If I can do it, anyone should be able to! Only thing I'll do differently if I have to do it again will be to support the engine a little closer to the right (passenger) end to make re-seating the bracket bolts a little easier.
Hope this mount will last more than 40k.
Thanks to all for the responses.

Seems I keep seeing new threads/new replies about failed motor mounts. It feels like an opportunity for an aftermarket solution - I can't be the only person wondering or asking that question.
Info anyone?
thanks

Cold weather probably causing it for many...
I spoke to BMW/MINI today and was told by the service department that my part had not arrived because the number they had in the system (which is current) is no longer valid. He told me that they do this when the upgrade a part. So, I hope that they are making it better....

Guess that means you're not replacing one this weekend. Let us know what you find when you see your new one. If I'm unlucky enough to need another one in the next couple years I want to know if the new-and-improved one really is!Originally Posted by daflake

Any updates? Do you notice any differences on the part?

Sorry for the lack of reply. Yes, there is a slight difference and the part number is different. That bugger was very stiff when I first put it in to the point that I could feel some vibration, but it has finally mellowed out a bit and is nice and smooth. FWIW, you will need and E12 socket to get the mount off. This is a special torx socket. Overall, the swap is very easy and took me about an hour with the right tools.

What does a bad motor mount feel like, or what does it do? I have an '04, noticed recently that I do have the stains on frame rails that would indicate a leaking mount, but there are no out of ordinairy vibrations, or noises. Any insight?

Same here... Just realized the other day oil residue around my mount as well.
Nothing out of the ordinary is happening other wise.

You really don't feel much difference, if any. I've been driving with a bad one for about 9 months.

OK, here is the part number.
22116778610
It is the third one on realoem but I didn't see it there the other day.

I am having my passenger side motor mount replaced now. It was leaking and causing a clunking sound when I pressed the gas pedal or let off the pedal. Not a real loud clunk, but noticeable. I didn't notice any vibration in the steering wheel, but my dash on the passenger side began to rattle. Hopefully the dash rattle was caused by the busted mount. I pick it up Wednesday, so I'll find out then.

It comes as one unit, not parts. The cost is about 90 USD for one.Originally Posted by Corey Kelty

Mine was bad since I got it 15,000 miles ago. It got to the point I could feel the clunk then had it replaced. $100 parts, 2 hrs labor?
