It's easy to see:

As you can see, it's also easy to get to. Good luck.

Leaking thermostat housing replaced under warranty today at Niello Mini in Sacramento. I only have about 19,000 miles on my MINI, but the blue light oily fluid on the floor of my garage definitely was coolant. It is no longer a problem and life is good again.

Add me to the list of those with the intermitten light blue fluid leak. I'll get this checked out next time I am up there at the dealer in Atlanta.

I took Cassie into Global Imports on Saturday, she needed a new thermostat housing; I mentioned the blue fluid on the garage floor and they said no problem. On the upside, she also got her second maintenance taken care of and she is all ready to go to Texas for Thanksgiving!

I always enjoy our motoring adventures!

I took YumYum in on Saturday to have the thermostat housing replaced, at Mini of South Atlanta (the old Hank Aaron dealership) received excellent service from my service advisor Ray Godman. He got me in and out quickly and the service department was so much improved since the last time I was there before the change in ownership. I went for a ride on Sunday to see the fall colors with no worries...Thanks again Ray!

Another thermostat housing

Have an 05S with 16,000 miles, and saw the blue stuff on the garage floor. Called Cincinnati Mini and they replaced the thermostat and its housing. Very painless experience (even got a Bimmer loaner), but it does appear as if the thermostat housings on some of the 05s leaves something to be desired.

I replaced my wifes last night.
Not too bad. Took me an hour and a half.
The hard part is trying to keep all the wires and hoses out of the way when disconnected.
I didn't loose as much antifreez as I thought I would.
The stat, gasket and housing were $70.00 from the dealer here in Michigan.

Guess I'll be driving my wife's car to the dealer soon. I just spotted a blue-green puddle of coolant on the garage floor. I'm wondering if/when the thermostat housing on my car will fail. <sigh>

Add me to the list of people with the light blue fluid leaking. Hopefully I can get it fixed on Monday.

I've got an '05 MCS as well that's leaking. Had Danny of MINICorsa check it out the other day and we couldn't tell by sight where the leak was from--but it didn't appear to be from the typical places like the expansion tank or the thermostat--so I'm still trying to determine the location.

Add another case to your list

I just had a thermostat replaced since the gasket was leaking too.

Just started noticing small blue puddles on the garage floor also. 28k miles on my 06 MCSa.

Oddly enough, I've needed to top off the coolant every few months or so since new. It routinely gets to about 1" below the Min line on the tank over time.

Hope we get a loaner....

You can add my GP to the "now leaking coolant" list ... taking it in to the dealer ASAP for service.

Is this like a sudden rash of leaks?

Me too. 25K miles on an '06 (9/2005 build). Started to notice it a few weeks ago and have put in about a gallon since then while topping off the reservoir at the Max line. The car is going to the dealer on Friday.

How many that have done this repair themselves, replaced only the thermostat? I guess what I am getting at is, did anybody really need the t-stat housing, also or was it strictly a gasket issue that replacing the t-stat resolved?

for me it was just the gasket according to what the dealer said.

the car was not overheating at all since i kept an eye on the coolant levels and the thermostat did not actually fail.

replaced under warranty.
