Repair kit for secret comp. rattle

Had the car in today to have the sunshade replaced. So far, this one stays closed. Time will tell but it is alot tighter than the last one.

MINI also came up with a repair kit to stop the rattling secret comaprtment which should help to silence their rattling customers (like me). Not too sophisticated but it appears to work. I drove home over some seriously bumpy roads on purpose to test it and very little noise was coming from that area. The "kit" includes 2 sponge bumpers. You can take your car in and ask them to fix it or do it yourself pretty easily for those far from their dealers.

The little piece of velcro on the rear side of the a/c is my invention BUT they did NOT remove it so perhaps its a helper. It was on there when I brought the car in.

PS..the bumpers do make the compartment harder to open. I don't use it much and this is an easy trade off for NO RATTLING for me.

I had my secret compartment replaced at the dealer. When I left the noise was worse than when I brought it in. I turned around and went back. I drove around with the tech, while he fooled with it and tried to isolate the problem. What he discovered was that the wood trim was rattling against the plastic backing the mechanism is bound to. Seems even the replacement was that way. He used some workable sealant material (similar to gortex I believe) and stopped the rattle (more of a medium frequency buzzing). Gone and haven't heard it since. For any still experiencing rattles in this area, check out the trim material and how it fits to the plastic backing of the trim material.

You guys I think have solved a buzzing problem. When I hit about about 85MPH I heard a buzzing which sounded like it was coming from the roof. I don't have a sunroof so that was elminated as a source. I suspect it's from the secret compartment. I will know when I go to work tomorrow. Now I would like to know how you got the lid of the "secret compartment" opened.
