I just started using my auto A/C full-time last week and have noticed a new sound on my MC. I think it has something to do with the Climate Control, but want to find out if anyone else experiences this sound.

It happens when I am shifting from first to second gear and again into third. The A/C is on Auto, and when I go to shift at about 3500 - 4000 RPM, I engage the cluch and hear a very loud whining sound. It almost sounds like a tornado siren. This sound goes away when I turn off the Auto A/C. I'll be taking this in for its oil service next week, so I'll find out for sure then, just wondering if anyone else experiences this. It just doesn't sound "normal".

I've got something similar in mine. I don't think it's coming from the outside of the car...when I roll the windows down it doesn't seem to get louder.

How cold is the AC coming out of the vents?

Hey that's a thread I started!

But seriously, I hear that electronic-like whine on occassion. The new noise I've been hearing the last month or so sound more like what your refered to. So does my description in the other thread sound more like what you're hearing?

Just to add to the list of noise threads:
another noise thread
that may actually be related. I just posted about a noise and vibration I have in my 03 MCS in that thread, and have thought "my" noise and vibration might related to the AC since I have not (yet?) noticed it without the AC, and it is rpm AND shift related.
I will also cross-post a link to this thread here in the other one.
I will continue to investigate and will post if I find out more.
Cheers,
Markus

I don't know if this noise is related to the other thread or not. It's tough to judge without hearing it. This noise I'm talking about here is defineatly influenced by the RPMs and it sounds like a tornado siren. (goes up and back down, most noticeable inbetween the shifts) I'm wondering if it's something to do with the compressor pulling the power from the engine?

I've noticed the same thing on my '03 MC, especially when the aux fan is running in addition to the normal fan - it's been like 95 here recently, and the aux fan has been running a considerable amount.

I asked my dealer, and he said it was normal. I took it by there, their tech rode around in it and said it was normal.

It reminds me of my old Jeep Wrangler's whine when the air was running full bore in the summer here in Texas.

YUCK! Normal? What a horrible sound to be "normal".

I just posted a message about a noise I am hearing around the same RPM range. Does the sound you're hearing sound like a "wahhhh" sound or is it more high-pitched? I described the sound here:

Thanks,

If the sound you are describing is coming from the engine area, then I would say that this is the same sound. Is your A/C on when you hear it? My sound doesn't sound like an exhaust though. It's more like a siren or a whirring noise.
