CV joints not covered under waranty?
CV joints not covered under waranty?
I took my 2005 cooper s in for service a few weeks ago to have a few issues taken care of and was told that my cv joints would not be covered because I had put aftermarket struts on the car. I called the # provided by my service advisor and was told that cv joints were a wear item and would not be covered regardless of whether or not I had the koni struts on the car.
The question . Is this bull$#!t. Is there someone I can talk to that will give me the answer I am looking for or am I just screwed.
I was thinking about replacing the cv joints my self to avoid the hassle but can't seem to be able to find any.
I am taking the car in today because the ac locked up and almost burnt the serpentine belt off the car. It would be nice to find a way to get the cv joints fixed while it is there.
P.S. 43000 miles on the car.
Please help me!
Thanks,
Brianne Corn

Using your SA's logic, the entire car is a wear item and is not covered under warranty. Yes, it's total BS. Brake pads, belts and tires are 'wear items' that require regular replacement. Pieces like CV joints, while they do wear, are not 'consumables'. Generally, the joints last the life of the car.
If you have lowered your car to an extreme, then additional wear gets placed on the joints. Still, it does not cause excessive wear unless really done wrong or to extremes.
I would press the issue.

Do you live near another dealer?
If they're going to hide behind BS, put the stockers back on and go to another dealer and see if you get coverd.
While it's total BS, they have "plausable deniability" just like Ronnie Raygun used Ollie North.
