Told ya it was easy. As far as warranty goes, i don't know? I would just let them do it (Sterling).

In general, you have the right to have your car serviced where you want. If proper techniques and parts are used, the warranty is fine.

Sure

1) get an AC charge kit at your favorite store.

2) Follow the directions!

It's really that easy. If you want to go further, you can buy or rent an A/C diagnostit system.

i'll take some picts when i do the recharge myself later on this week
so that anyone that might have the same issue as me can
keep their system charged. unlike some people, Greatbear is
always generous to help.

dealer tried 4 times to try to fix it with no success. easier for me
to just keep charging it using the 134a with self-sealer. might even
fix the leak after a few charges.

Ken what steamed me about your comment...

is that if you look at most of my posts, if providing free help to lots of people. I don't know everything, and sometimes I'm wrong or incomplete, but people like me give much, much more that we get, and to read catty comments like that make me want to say ef it!

Sorry that my level of detail wasn't what you wanted, I'll try to be better.

thanks for your help... but

you're not the only one providing free info. i also share lots of
info and experience here on NAM and other forums. im not arrogant
either cause i value each useful information i find and feel that what i
receive and give are the same amount.

i didn't see your description where you posted about the locations of the
valves. i skimmed though the thread twice and did not see it. i finally
saw it the 3rd time while i carefully looked for it.

a quick 'look at previous post' or 'already posted' or something would
have helped rather than just leaving the thread with no further info...
having the knowledge of recharge kits does me no good if i dont know
where to hook it up.

i dont usually need to do repairs on my cars because i only buy new...
kind of defeats the purpose, really... and these problems with my
MCS are affecting my future decisions on buying BMW's (especially
from my dealer). it's rather a shame.

But none of it is an excuse for bad manners.

I read through this whole thread (thanks to the "no manners" thread ) & all I see was some kidding around & some missing that a post was in jest. I don't see why having a sense of humor would make you guilty of having no manners but then I am one who tends to go in looking for the funny from the get go

hey, you were the one that posted you would rather have kids
eating inside the car than teaching them some manners not to go
balistic.

anyway, i got the can of 134a with the hose and gauge at Walmart!
will give it a shot tonight or tomorrow morning.

I have over 7000 posts here and most of them are to give free advice with my own time. I think greatbear is great too, but the comment about "unlike some people, Greatbear is always generous to help." hit me between the eyes. Maybe I'm over sensitive, but really, is there any other way to read that then the previous posters weren't helpfull?

And to keep beating up on Ken again (sorry Ken, I guess it's just your lucky day), the post " oh, you were still here. " wasn't the highest form of communication either.

I've had days where I've been less than nice, moments I'm not really proud of, but they happen. When I realize what I've done, I try to say sorry. Sometimes even if the offence was unintended, because that's what polite people do. Maybe this is just a day when I'm oversensitive for whatever reason, but those happen as well. If I'm totally off base here, sorry for it.

Thanks for your time,

Matt

ps,, and what's whith the rolly eyes on the No Manners thread? The last time I posted something like this after a pissing contenst that got nasty went down, there was lots of congratulations and requests for a sticky!

Kenchan and I have been here for a while, and usually we get along, and occationally we disagree. Today just happened to be one of the latter, and life will go on.

One way to get in deep fast is to tell parents how to raise children. I"m all open on how to get a 5 month old or a 2 and a half year old how to behave without impulsive outbursts, or behaviours that don't need improvement. I'm sure parents all over the world would love to know how....

Thanks for your time,

Matt

i agree dont mention anyones parenting skills ...its rude in its own manner. but then again i believe all these post are taking things too far ....from the initial response back i believe it was intended to just be a joke so lets all keep the good mini vibes alive and stop arguing ....btw i don't mind if someone is incomplete or even completely wrong in what they think they know or do know ..if you take the time to try at least then more props to you ...there are tons of things i do know about but then again things as simple as offsets i cant grasp lol so i appreciate all that try to spread what they know how no matter how big or little .......unfortunately some aren't on the same page because a few days ago i saw a NAM hasting towards a newb documenting an install of a antenna ...btw i cant wait to see the write up on the AC recharge ...im hoping mine will be as simple as that

edubledie- sorry, but this is not your thread anymore. jk jk

yah, i'll post my experiment with my car. got some supplimentary info
from Greatbear (he's like my tech-god) so will run a thermometer (via my
voltmeter) in the vents to get some readings as well.

should only take no more than 5-10min. can you imagine wat the dealer
charges for this??!!

The roll eyes was because I didn't think ken was showing a lack of manners & I didn't feel that a post made in jest which had a at the end (which means someone is sticking their tongue out at you & totally means they were kidding) warranted a thread directed at them which was basically saying that they had no manners.

It looks as though it was all a misunderstanding & hopefully life as we know it will continue <<--that was sarcasm in case anyone didn't know

If the dealer worked on a leaking A/C system, they would find the leak, fix it and recharge the system. If a system has leaked down completely (this constitutes an "open" system) the receiver/drier should be replaced and the system should be vacuumed down before it is re-charged.
Be careful to avoid over-filling the system. It will not work correctly if overfilled.

I think the AC must have been fixed because it's gotten a bit "chilly" in here

alright, thanks to Dr O and Greatbear, i got the AC recharged.

i just used some generic Interdynamics recharge bottle with hose and
gauge. it was about $20 at Walmart.

here's some quick picts i took.

the arrow points to the low pressure side where the recharge hose clips
onto. there's a black dust cap on it (removed in this pict). just unscrew it.

per Greatbear's recommendations, i hooked up my thermometer to the vent.
this is just my volt meter with the thermometer sensor (thermocouple)
masking taped into the vent to monitor the temp.

this is the gauge that the recharge kit comes with... very easy to use.

1) started the engine (just idle), set the temp to "LO" and vented
out the top vent making sure the AC was turned on. (temp read 71F
which was the same as ambient temp ).

2) i connected the recharge hose onto the car's a/c valve and read the
gauge. it showed about 25psi. theoretically still within the correct
pressure, but blowing hot air.

(just pull back the sleeve on the recharge hose's blue connector,
push into the valve and then push out the sleeve to lock it onto the valve.
kinda like a valve on a tire).

3) anyway, proceeded and shot nitrous ahem.... the 134a into my
ac system. i did about 10 sec, let off the button and read the gauge.
it was now at 26psi.

4) i read the thermometer... the temp started dropping!

5) i repeated the shot a few more times to get it consistent at about 29psi
remembering that it was better to set it lower than on the higher side.

my thermometer was reading 45F.

done.

took me maybe 7-8 min tops. im sure i'll have to recharge again in a
few months, but at least i learned how to do it. pretty cool.
