how to test voltage regulator?

how to test voltage regulator?

turns out my alt and batt are both good. now, this guy had the same problem occur, he said it ended up being his voltage regulator, but he already ordered a new alt. http://www.metroplexmini.org/forum/s...d=1#post328915

how can i test my voltage regulator to see if thats the problem? sear's said the alt tested good.

Its more than likely that the VR is part of the alternator. I would assume it is and if it is, it can't be tested seperately. Did they test it on the car or off? With it off is the only way to determine if that unit is bad. Going to a Sears Auto Center is like going to Pep Boys anymore, BTW. A joke. You could have an open lead, a bad ground, a bunch of things.

the tested with it on and off i think, both tested good.

and the VR is inside the alt.

It could be an open lead, a bad ground, internal wiring problems ie-too much resistance. A number of things. This is where it gets hard as you pretty much start chasing wires with a voltmeter.
