Nav / Radio / Center Console Frozen

Ever since I bought my 07 MCS the nav / center console kept restarting and finally after 2 weeks of Micro$oft windows-like restarts it finally locked up on me, and now it just displays the mini logo. BMW in all their wisdom designed the entire thing into one computer (NAV, Radio, CD, Bluetooth etc)

I took it into the dealership in north hollywood, they were baffled and didn't know where to begin. Two days pass and they've ordered another nav computer in hopes it will fix the problem.

Well, the point I guess to this post is to see if anyone else with a 07 NAV is having this problem. I know MINI dealerships do not give out rentals, but north hollywood was kind enough to give me one for free.

Haven't had that problem... and why do you say MINI dealers don't give out rentals. I assume you mean loaners, and, generally, they do.

I've continously had problems with bluetooth connections to my Nav/Phone system and my Motorola Q phone. The other day I was driving, got a call, hit Accept call, and it froze. It had the Name of the Caller. I couldn't hit the home button or in anyway use the joystick

What sucked is that I was on my way to a location that I had never been to, so my Nav was useless. I pulled over, shut off the car for a few minutes and started it back up. Right back to the same thing.

So I called to get directions, got there, then an hour later walked back out and everything was back to normal.

I bought my 07 MCSa in No. Hollywood as well. My nav has been working fine. It's the voice recognition system that hasn't worked since day one.

Have you had service there before? If so, how is it?

It sounds as if you need to take in for service to get the voice recognition system fixed. It is a known issue that has intermittently plagued people. From what I understand it takes a software upgrade to fix it.

When mine is delivered in August, that is one of the things I'm going to check before I drive off the lot.

Terrific idea. Except that the dealers I've called so far seem to know nothing about the problem nor any software ugrade that would fix the problem they know nothing about. So far, that would be Brecht, Crevier, Assel and Mini of Universal City (all so Cal).

I had the Nav system freeze on me today. My wife was driving, i was playing around with setting on the nav system, switched over to FM and screen froze. Any button that where pushed had no affect on the screen (looked like it was trying to pull the RDS info from the FM station), however, the system seemed to be operating fine (short of the display being froze) as we could change radio stations and use voice commands. We pulled over, shut off the car, restarted, still froze.

I eventually ended up pulling the connector next to the radio fuse in the fuse box (in hopes of disconnecting the batt from the SatNav and causing a hard reset). Turned the car back on, SatNav started with the Mini logo and has been working fine since.

Very frustrating as the car is only two days old, if it happens again I'll check with the dealer to see if this is a known problem (no high hopes for that).

UPDATE:

Dealership has ordered multiple parts - its still at the dealership . .

I asked them why it was taking so long (almost 2 weeks for a god-damn NAV) their response was "we're following procedure". I don't know guys - what should I do? Is there anything I can do? This is ridiculous the car has less than 2,000 miles - and I'm paying payments for a car I can't drive

It seems to be the MINI way. I love the car, but MINI the company has been the most unresponsive, illogical, unconcerned car company I have ever dealt with. I am beginning to believe they see it as part of the cult and actually cultivate it.

I saw this and thought of Fry's Electronics (if you live near one you know what I mean). HORRIBLE service and staff knowledge, great selection and usually great prices.

Anyway, I need to bring ours in next week for a door issue, the passenger door won't open if locked (even with 2 pulls). Requires unlock first.
