Brand new car_Transmission problems! Help!
Hey guys!
I'm the proud owner of a new Mini Cooper.
Today was my second day of driving and I had some scary moments with the transmission. I have a lot of experience with manual trans (know how to double clutch, heel and toe, etc.). About four times today, as I was in the 1-2 shift, I got a real good grind with the clutch completely in and the shifter brought into second gear.
It is astonishing. I don't know what is causing it.
Any ideas? I'm very concerned and a little depressed. My closest dealer is 1hr 15 from the house too.

Hey Steve... Hmmmmmm I had some little grindage in reverse when I first got my car, But the only BIG Problem I have now, Is and You mite want to check this also,Is...... LOOK for any type of oily sumptance on the tip of the bottom of the tranny.( Located on the driver side and its silver in color). YOU mite not believe this But they just told me that there is tranny fluid seeping out of the out-put shaft where the shifter linkage is and I have to have a Brand new Transmission put in.. I guess they mite of had a problem before with other customers.. But besides that, the car is great.. Tell me if you see any fluid like sumptance on your cross member.. thanks Dan
see...just when i thought it was just me ...i read this kinda stuff..
not sure if you are all driving the MC or MCS with the six speed..but i do get this groweling sounds (not so much like a grinding noise..when i a m shifting from first to second....dunno...but i had them look at it when it was serviced...and they said they adjusted the linkage...but it still does the same thing

Our 03 MC had a leaky tranny that was replaced in April. Somehow the wheel bearings were also damaged.

I had this same problem with my 02 MC(6-9 times), and now I have a 03 MCS, still occasional problem(3 times).
Good news is I learned to PUSH the clutch in ALL the way, and have not had any more itterations of the problem.
Seems the clutch is setup for those that are not manual drivers, this is the easiest manual I have ever driven, and been doing them for over 40 years.
