Help needed ASAP!! Driver's seat won't go back to upright!

OK, I've done a prelim search on this and can't really find anything. My driver's side seat back won't return to the normal upright position after I slid it forward to get in the back seat. The seat back is stuck forward while the bottom of the seat freely slides on the tracks. When I slide the seat back to where it should go, it acts like something is keeping it from hitting the spot where the back can be popped back to where it should be, but I can't see anything obvious. Anybody have any ideas? I called the local dealership and their suggestions didn't work. No MINI techs are working today so the soonest they'd be able to get to it is Monday, but I'm supposed to go to the world record attempt in VA Beach tomorrow!!!

Just a thought. Have you tried messing with the back adjuster on the console side of the seat? This has caught on me a couple times. hth

Yeah, I've tried pulling up on that lever while pushing/pulling on the seat back and nothing happens. It's really starting to frustrate me!!

look on the back of the seat by where the tracks are on the inside area. theres a cable that connect the bottom tracks to the seat back frame and locks it into place. sometimes the cables pops off. if not you need a seatback frame.

good luck

One of my friends from our local club came over and we were able to find the issue - the mechanism that locks the seat-back forward wasn't unlocking!! A little WD-40 and it's now back to working order. Amazingly, the seat backs are very easy to get apart. Once we did that, we could see right away what was going on.

i never seen anyone fix this issue with spray lube. its a known problem and the fix is to replace tilt mechanism. u can force it back while holding the lever up. alil nudge with ur shoulder and it will pop back into position but it will happen again and sometimes not lock at all and just tilt foward premanently

to remove the seat backs you remove both the inner and outer tilt handle screws (torx 35 i believe) then either slide the seat back plastic down or give the top a tug then slide down. the outer handle cover pops off to access the screw.

this happened to my car a couple years ago. I took it to Mini of San Francisco (after a very uncomfortable ride home from work). When I got there, a service tech went out to my car and body checked the seat a few times. He said that the seat had become misaligned and it needed to be "forced" back into alignment. Needless to say I was not too happy about some stanger manhandling my car like that, but it seemed to do the trick.

My front seat has become 'stuck'.
Seems I let my son borrow car and it happened while he had it. It's a stretch to get the clutch in. Have an appointment tomorrow. Will update after I get back.

Took car to dealer, and they replaced track with new one. Was under warranty so I can now reach clutch better.
Was a stretch before I had it fixed.

06 MCS...

I had the passenger seat do this about 6 months ago. The cable had snapped. The dealer replaced the track which included the cable...

Now, this week, my passenger side airbag light is turning on randomly.

It would seem that the seats and related mechanisms are not up to the stress they need to receive.

Bummer.
