Clearing codes from CEL

Well on the heels of my other post the CEL came back on today, probably drove the car about 25 miles since Autozone cleared it. Now the perf is fine, but the light is on and stays on. The funny thing about clearing the CEL was when the key was inserted and NOT started and the code reader was plugged in it said something about a connection error, but when we started my car up he was then able to clear it...or so I thought Like I said the perf is fine and I'm just going to take it to the dealership for them to check it out and have them remove the code, maybe because its a German car there's something special about their code reader compared to the one they use at Autozone, is this true, can someone enlighten me about this

This morning I sprayed a bit more of that safe electrical cleaner and let it sit. Then I went out to meet my wife for lunch and when I backed out the CEL came on. THis time though the perf was fine, so I'm just wondering if there is a hard code that only the dealership can erase, is there such a thing

GRRRRRRRRR!

Last night the perf was still fine, fine enough to stay ahead of a mid-90's Stang GT from a 3rd gear roll and even for most of today it was ok...yeah, MOST of today Earlier I took the car back to another Autozone to have the code erased and then I took the car out for about a 40 mile run and the CEL didn't come back. On my way home from work though the perf was FLAT once again, but NO CEL...right now When they erased the CEL yesterday she said it showed (2) codes for 0301 cylinder #1 misfire, why is that? You'd think one would be enough. I'm still taking the car into the dealership next Wednesday but this really baffles me, perf on and then off again.

I should also add this to the story too. When I was in Grand Rapids I did use the sprayer at the quarter carwash to clean up the engine bay a little. I stayed away from my open element K&N filter and NEVER spray directly onto the plug area of ANY vehicle, but I wonder if something happened there because right after that I "thought" I felt a power loss when I had someone in the car and I was entering the freeway, hmm

Based on what I've said so far, what do you guys think. The dealership said that Autozone and their code reader doesn't work on the MINI's, is this true?
