Troubleshoot: Supercharger

Ok, please pardon me if this is a stupid question or asked before. I did search and could not find the answer definitely.

I have removed my supercharger from the car and taken the water pump off the rear. When I turn the front of the charger by hand, the water pump drive gear does not move, just a grinding sound. That is bad right?

Thanks for your help.

Oops, didn't mean to grab the gen2 forum. Thanks for the quick reply. Guess I am on the hunt now for a replacement.

I called them and they are aware of this issue, but since MINI is the only user of this particular Eaton, they have not had enough demand to develop a fix. I was unable to find any rebuild / repair shops that could correct the problem, and this was also echoed by M7 and Helix. I found a deal on a new one and decided that I didn't want to do this again any sooner than needed, so I took it instead of getting a different used one.

If you have a chance, I'd love to see pics of the old SC.

I'm curious if we get any/many cases of a 'false positive' WRT the water pump gears.

I am curious, what year MINI, how many miles?

How long have you heard noises from the SC?

Was it overheating and for how long?

I'm not working on a fix for the loss of oil, but I am working on a way to monitor, drain and refill easily.

thanks,

YD
