Good St. Louis Area Drives?
Seeing that I'm not originally from St. Louis and the car I used to drive around here before the MINI was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, I really don't know of the good, twisty, back roads in the area to take the Cooper out on. What are some of the routes you guys and gals go on when you want to pass the day with some good motoring?
Thanks.
Thanks.
The roads out around the wineries(Augusta, Herman Etc) are great. The roads in Jefferson County are all hilly & twisty. Get yourself the map of Missouri that has all the counties listed on separate pages with ALL the roads(even small county roads) You can pick it up at a Borders or Barnes & Noble. Or better yet join STLMINI & join us on a rallye sometime. We'd love to have you. SCCA of St Louis also has monthly road rallies that would help get you started in exploring the many twisties we have in our area.

Thanks, Lois. I'm already a member of the St. Louis Mini Club -- but I'm a newbie who hasn't been able to hit a rallye yet. (But I'll be at the European Auto Show next weekend, the happy hour coming up soon, and the rallye sponsored by Mini of St. Louis in Sept.)
I'll purchase one of those maps and start making some of my own routes. I'll share any good finds, of course!

I like the river road north of Alton on the Illinois side. It's not real curvey but it is one of the few places on the Mississippi that you can see the river instead of a levy. Take the drive to Pere Marquette State Park and do some hiking. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.
Take Olive to the south from the west end of the Chesterfield Valley. Once you get out past Wild Horse Creek Road you'll find twisty roads all over going up and down the hills near the river. I do TV production work out at St. Albans a couple of times a month and find the roads out in that area most pleasureable!
