So where is this event being held? I don't see a place or have I just missed something? Can't come & watch if we can't find you

The event is being held at a private shop near the Sauget, IL area. As a courtesy to the owner, we're not making the address public. I'll send off directions to you, Mark, and the other participants a week before the event.

Thanks for clarifying that, Clint. I guess if there is anyone else who would like to just come & watch, they should email you?

Hi Lois.

Yup. Those who are coming to the event to watch or attend should most definitely shoot me an email.

Do you need to sign up for a time slot just for the dyno (i.e., no tune)?

Yes, you need to sign-up for a time slot. Cars will be tuned while they are still on the dyno so that maps can be checked, adjusted and/or improved in real time.

Thanks for your interest!

My tickets are booked!

I'll be rolling into Saint Louis in the late afternoon on Friday, 4/23. Right after I get into town on Friday, I'd really love to do dinner or frozen custard with STL MINI and everyone who will be attending the dyno/tuning day to watch or participate on Saturday, 4/24.

I just found out that the dyno shop we're using does not have internet access. That being said, if you're getting a tune, I'll snag your ECU codes on the Friday night meet-up to ensure that I have your base tune on my laptop.

A couple of questions before I consider this, please.

1. I have a 2007 Cooper S with the JCW Stage 1 kit. Have you done a similarly spec'd car and what were the results?

2. What happens when I go to the dealer and they have to update or do something to the software? Is there any issue with this? Will I lose the tuning?

Thanks!
Mike

Hi Mike,

I can remap 07+ non-JCW Cooper S's to anywhere between 190-200 hp and 245-265 tq at the wheels.

If your car is still under warranty and the dealer does a reflash, the tune goes bye bye. However I will still have your tune on my laptop and backed-up in SF. I'll have DIY flash modules from Dimsport in stock at the end of May. If you want the ability to reflash back to stock before taking your car to the dealer for service and then back to the adjusted maps from the dyno session afterward, the DIY flash module is the ticket.

Thanks for the info. Another question... have you every dyno'd an 07 with the JCW kit? I'm wondering what the range is stock (with the stage 1 kit).

Hi Mike,

I have not dyno'ed an '07 with the JCW kit, so unfortunately I'm not the guy to ask on that front. The main gains that you're seeing with the JCW Stage 1 kit are the result of an improved ECU remap, but I can definitely do better than what the dealer has offered you via said remap.

In any case. It will be good to get reacquainted at the STL MINI get-together that Doug Travis is helping me organize on the evening of 4/23 when I get to town. If you're interested in tuning, drop me a PM or email and I'll get you on the list. If not, no biggie.

Clint,

When do you think you will be on the east coast? Connecticut/New York for a dyno tune?

I have an 05 with the JCW kit but everything else is stock. Would a reflash make that big of difference? I seem to be having some issues with it going into limp mode if you get on it hard in 1st gear. I didnt know if a reflash would help this problem or not.

There will be 3 R53 JCW's being remapped on 4/24, so you'd be in good company. There are definite gains to be had with ECU tuning - even on a 'stock' JCW.

So this 'limp mode' situation -- Is it just your DSC/ASC kicking-in -or- is it truly going in to limp mode? I'm only asking because if there's a bigger issue present, it would suck to get you on the dyno and then have to pull you off w/o being able to do a remap.

The CEL comes on and then goes off after a couple of miles so I dont think its a traction control issue. I haven't got it scanned yet to know for sure. I need to try it with the traction control turned off to verify.

I'd leave the traction control on. Pull over and take an OBDII scanner to your car when the CEL comes on to get that code. It could just be a sensor that is failing. However, it could also be a bigger issue. In any case, once you know what the CEL code is, you can begin diagnosis.

PM or email me once you get those codes.

Meetup on 4/23/10 -- Pre-Dyno Session

Hi All,

For those attending the dyno session for tuning and/or interested in grabbing some dinner together the night before the big day, we will be meeting at Doug Travis' house in Olivette at 6:30 pm on 4/23/10.

Doug's address is:

1031 Dolores Ave.
Olivette, MO 63132
314-651-1048

For the cars that I'm tuning, I'll get your ECU info on Friday night so that we're ready to roll on Saturday morning. After I grab your info, we'll take a walk or drive to get some dinner. If you can join us, that would be great!

See you on 4/23 and 4/24.

-Clint

Sounds like a cool thing to attend and just watch since we can't afford to do it. Planning on attending to see how the cars do.
