Anybody have a pulley tool locally?
I am wanting to put on 15 % pulley but in my mind I just can't justify buying a tool that I may only use once. Anyone have one that they would loan out for a weekend?
Pulley Tool
Have you put on a new pulley b4? I have put 2 on (my 04 and another club member 04 late last year), and it's not all that easy. You have to lift the engine to gain access to the pulley.
There are actually 2 tools that you need, one to pull the pulley, and another to take the tension off of the belt (or, visa-versa!!).
There are good pullers, and bad pullers. The good one grabs the entire pully diameter to pull it off, and the crappy one just grabs 1/2 of the pulley and doesn't pull straight. The crappy puller combined with a stubburn pulley almost ruined our day last install
. (I had the good one for mine
.)
Anyway, i digress...I made my own belt tension tool with a piece of a hockey stick handle, a 1/4 bolt to insert the tensioner hole, and a socket to grab the pivot point bolt. It's worked good twice now.
Mini mania is where we got ours, and their instructions are great.
If you haven't done it yet, I would be happy to help you install if you'd like. Takes 2 to 3 hours (first time), maybe less if everything goes o-k. I live in Wildwood, near Lafayette HS. My place or yours, does't matter.
PS. I know someone who has a tension tool, but we would have to ask to borrow it. Don't know anyone who has a puller. I rented mine from Mini Mania for $1, but then so did the guy who got the crappy one!
Let me know.

I have not done one before but I am pretty familiar with the process and know my way around a garage. I am going to wait to put one on until after I get back from teh dragon though. Thanks
